Trees for Nipissing is a grassroots organization started in 2004, with the planting of two nurseries. Formerly known as Nipissing Botanical Gardens, we had our beginnings with Heritage Gardeners. Most of the trees and shrubs planted in 2004 were eventually installed in the Community Waterfront Park along Lake Nipissing and near Discovery North Bay Museum. Plantings have also been done at CFB North Bay, with Living Fit in the Grandchildren Planting Trees project and plantings along Chippewa and Parks Creeks with the Greater Nipissing Stewardship Council. In 2019 the Starter Nursery was built to provide small trees for community groups who want to do a planting with the support of TD Friends of the Environment and North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority. The Community Orchard was planted with Living Fit sponsors and volunteers in 2020. In 2021 we planted the Newborn Forest/Forest nouveau-né with the support of Caisse populaire Alliance, the Community Forest with Cogeco and started naturalizing the former landfill site on Marsh Drive.

Board members include Hal Falk, Liza Vandermeer and Peggy Walsh Craig. Advisory members are David Schroeder, Troy Storms and Adam Whyte.
